Almost every player enjoys stepping out onto the field and competing; however, for some it’s more than enjoyment. It’s a passion.
For players like Colter Mahon, it’s his love and passion for the game that lead him to put on that Mills Godwin uniform and compete every Friday night.
“I wanted to prove myself,” said Mahon. “I always wanted to play football at a higher level and wanted to see how I could perform at a higher level. I like the brotherhood that becomes with the team.”
In his senior season, Mahon did just that. He finished with 80 tackles, four tackles for loss, four interceptions, and a fumble recovery. He was named a second team All-Conference defensive back and earned collegiate interest from Hampden-Sydney, Frostburg State, Methodist University, Capital University, and Tabor University.
Ultimately, Mahon decided that he wanted to continue his academic and football career and Randolph Macon College.
“I felt like I really fit in with the program,” explained Mahon. “The coaches seemed to care about me as an individual. The players were amazing. Also, the school is beautiful and is great academically.”
Randolph Macon is a Division III program located in Ashland. Last year, the Yellow Jackets finished 9-2 and were undefeated at home. Mahon will be looking to replicate his high school success at the collegiate level, as the Randolph Macon football program continues to improve.
