Looking back on the past three years, Monacan High School athletics, as a whole, has put together some kind of stretch.
Over those three years the football team went 29-8 and the boys basketball team won an improbable 4A state championship.
All of that, is not to mention, the girls basketball dynasty and a state championship boys volleyball squad.
Wednesday’s NCAA Signing Day celebrated five athletes who were all key components in the football and basketball teams success. Not only that but it marked the beginning of a new chapter in each athlete’s athletic career.
Team captain on the gridiron, Austin Snellings signed to play at Ferrum College. Snellings had a fantastic senior campaign on both sides of the ball.
Snellings was an all conference-selection at corner and managed 750 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on offense. You can read more about his decision here.
Battling injury throughout the season, Dallas Brown was still able to put up some lofty numbers on offense. The 6-2 receiver totaled 471 yards on 28 catches. Brown decided to stay local with his schooling as well and signed with Norfolk State on Wednesday.
Shenandoah will add two Monacan Chiefs to its roster next year. Corner Langston McCatty and receiver Jordan Baker both signed to play up in Winchester for the next four years with the Hornets. Both were key pieces to a high octane Monacan offense that put up a lot of points and a strong defense that held four teams under ten points.
On the hardwood, Gregory ¨Alden¨ Parham finally signed to play division I basketball at VMI. A state champion and state player of the year,
Parham will go down as one of the all time greats for Monacan basketball. You can read more about his commitment here.
Today was yet another great day for Monacan athletics. With such a tremendous culture built now, more successful signing days are sure to come.
