The L.C. Bird boys’ basketball team captured the VHSL 5A Championship at the VCU Siegel Center thanks in large part to its three-headed monster of senior players – Pinky Wiley, Mario Haskett and Cam Henry.
Haskett, a sharpshooter, has already secured his college opportunity as he will play at Harvard.
So Henry and Wiley have been rifling through offers since the Skyhawks season ended to secure their respective college plans.
Well, Henry’s number has been called and he has answered.
Henry, a 6-5 forward who was a first team all-conference player and third-team All-Metro player, has committed to Division II Lincoln Memorial.
In the meantime, the savvy point guard Wiley has picked up offers this week from Morgan State and Delaware State.
Lincoln Memorial, located in Harrogate, Tenn., and coached by Josh Schertz, plays in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Conference. Last season, the Railsplitters were 30-6 overall and 19-3 in the SAC.
The team has one player from the state of Virginia on its rosters – Marcell Haskett. The former Kecoughtan standout scored 1,453 points in high school.
The team lost to Queens 75-72 in the SAC Championship game but went on to advance to the NCAA Division II tournament, capturing the South Atlantic Regional before being ousted in the Elite Eight by Northwest Missouri State 79-67.
