Thomas Dale has a history of producing top track and field prospects. A few years ago, they sent Devin Bethea to VCU for track. This year, Aliyah Newman will reunite with her former teammate, as she has committed to VCU.
Newman is a triple jumper and long jumper posting career best at 38’ 4.75” and 17’5” respectively. She is All-State in triple jump and finished fifth in Outdoor States in 2016 and again at Indoor States in 2017. When making her commitment, Newman had track and academics in mind.
“I chose VCU because it seemed like a family,” said Newman. “The track team had a very close knit feel and everyone was extremely nice. The coach definitely showed lots of interest in me to join his team. It’s also the best fit for my major, Health Science on a Pre-Pharm Track.”
The Thomas Dale track coach expressed his belief in Newman’s athletic ability and her ability to succeed at the collegiate level.
“Aliyah is an amazing athlete,” he said. “Being a competition cheerleader really helped her flourish in the jumps and hurdles. She has developed an elite mind for the sport that has ultimately led to her being an elite athlete. I know she will do great at the collegiate level.
