Antonio Ortiz, another Benedictine standout, has gotten his first offer from UVA-Wise. The 6-5, 230-pound junior long snapper and tight end is relieved to know that he has finally gotten his first offer.
“It was very unexpected when I received the call from the coach. It was an awesome feeling when I got the offer because all of my hard work had paid off. The offer has given me more motivation to keep working every day.”
Antonio Ortiz is the 5th rated long snapper in the country, giving him an edge against the competition. He has been contacted by schools that have interest in both his long-snapping ability and his tight end ability. Quite the resume for the rising Benedictine senior.
“I have not received any other offers. For tight end, I have been contacted by Columbia, Bowdoin, and Davidson. For long snapping, I have been contacted by Virginia Tech, Colorado State and Georgia. I just started talking to some of these schools after I came back from the Rubio Long Snapping Camp in Las Vegas which was May 13th and the 14th.”
Keeping busy with visiting schools, Ortiz has visited plenty of colleges already and he plans to visit more over the summer.
“I have visited Texas Christian University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Texas at El Paso. I also went to the junior day at the University of Richmond. I am planning to visit Virginia Tech for sure. There are some other schools that I am thinking about going to, but I’m not sure just yet.”
Antonio and his brother, Marco Ortiz, will be attending a football camp as well, as they both were invited for their great skills in long snapping.
“My brother and I got invited to and will be attending the Top 12 Rubio Long Snapping Camp at IMG Academy in July.”
Antonio just recently got preferred walk-on from Virginia Tech, showing that he is gaining lots of attention from Division I schools.
Antonio will be looking forward to having a great senior year at Benedictine. Look for more offers to soon be rolling in for Ortiz.
