The college recruiting has just began for Millwood’s small forward Darrick Jones Jr.
The rising sophomore has just picked up his third offer from Virginia Tech in the past week. Jones would announce the big news via Twitter: @KingJones_35 “Blessed to receive an offer from Virginia Tech!! #ACC #GoHokies”
The 6-5 small forward already had offers from other division one schools like Massachusetts and Winthrop and with Tech, he earns his third.
Although not seeing the floor all that often for Millwood, Jones has taken advantage of playing time while playing for Team Loaded and showing off his true athleticism by attacking the rim very consistently. With his long arms, and wingspan of 6-7, it makes it very easy for him to score and also show up on the defensive end of the court as well.
“It’s been a good experience [playing with Team Loaded], the organization always brings in some of the best players in the country. I’m a slasher and I get to the basket easily. I can also shoot the three ball.”
Virginia Tech is a school located in Blacksburg, Virginia, where they are led by 4th year head coach Buzz Williams.
Under Williams, the Hokies have had a dramastic change as he has led them to a winning season every year except his first year. He’s also brought them back to tournament play as they played as the 7th seed in the NCAA Tournament losing to Wisconsin in the first round 84-74.
Williams was quick to jump on Jones as Williams loves players who can attack the rim with ease.
As Jones will be a sophomore this coming season, it gives him plenty of time to continue his play for both Millwood and Team Loaded while also improving his game and letting the offers grow faster.
